VOLUNTEER

Picture

Each year, we are blessed with a volunteer to teach English classes.  While a degree in education is certainly beneficial, it is not a requirement for our internship.  Neither is it necessary to speak Spanish fluently, though it definitely helps in building realtionships with students and faculty.  We are looking for someone to share the love of Jesus with young people and to respectfully manage classroom discipline while teaching basic English (as a Foreign Language).

An established English curriculum is required, though we welcome the fresh ideas and styles of each intern to teach using creative avenues such as music, drama, and innovative activities.  In addition to teaching English classes, interns offer an elective class based on their talents and skills.  Apart from classroom responsibilities, interns serve the ministry through extra-curricular responsibilities, group hosting, and community outreach.

The school calendar starts the 1st Monday of February and ends the final Friday of October.  We are looking for a volunteer who can commit to the full academic year; however, we will consider accepting volunteers for a semester.  If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to fill out and submit the online form below.  We will follow up with an email.  Three recommendations are required, one from current pastor and 2 from non-family members.  Serving at IER is an opportunity to invest in the lives of the future.

  • Full commitment to the internship for the agreed upon duration
  • Raise necessary funds before arrival in Honduras
  • Two additional personal recommendations, from non-family members (mentor, teacher, boss, etc)

What Volunteers Say About IER:

From Volunteer Lauren Davies:

“Interning at IER changes how you see things--to live up in the mountains close to the people of Honduras. The students are eager to learn, bright , fun, and creative…It will change your perspective and open your eyes more and more to God’s Kingdom and His love for us.”

From Volunteer Allison Yaeger:

"IER is a place of hope: hope of a great education…hope for impoverished families, and the hope of Christ that is transforming lives everyday. It was this hope, this light, that drew me to intern at IER.
Interning at IER is a beautiful and unique opportunity…the months I lived at IER were filled with endless moments of joy. My time was spent developing cross-cultural friendships, teaching alongside talented Honduran educators, sharing smiles with students, laughing with church missions groups, trying new foods and learning from every moment.

"I learned what true service looks like from people who have dedicated their lives to faithfully follow Jesus, more about my own unique talents and calling, about God’s never-failing provision and love for all His people, but especially for the poor, and how to trust God more than I ever had before.
You’ll never know what God has in store for you unless you say “yes” to the opportunities He has placed before you. Go. Do. Serve. Say “yes” with your whole heart. You will not be disappointed."
